📄 Joint Statement in Support of the Efforts to Strengthen the United Nations Secretary-General’s Mechanism for Investigation of the Alleged Use of Chemical and Biological Weapons (Geneva, December 16, 2024) 🌐 We, the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Burkina Faso, the Central African Republic, the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Kyrgyz Republic, the People’s Republic of China, the Plurinational State of Bolivia, the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Republic of Mali, the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, the Republic of Nicaragua, the Republic of the Niger, the Republic of Tajikistan, the Russian Federation, the State of Eritrea, the Syrian Arab Republic, reaffirm our dedication to protecting humanity from chemical and biological warfare, recognize the common interest of all humankind in excluding completely the possibility of the use of chemical, bacteriological (biological) and toxin weapons. Convinced that such use would be repugnant to the conscience of humankind, we are determined to condemn any use of toxic chemicals, biological agents or toxins as weapons by anyone, anywhere, at anytime, and to hold accountable those responsible for any such use. We underline that the Convention on the Prohibition of the Development, Production and Stockpiling of Bacteriological (Biological) and Toxin Weapons and on Their Destruction (BWC), the Convention on the Prohibition of the Development, Production, Stockpiling and Use of Chemical Weapons and on Their Destruction (CWC) and the Protocol for the Prohibition of the Use in War of Asphyxiating, Poisonous or Other Gases, and of Bacteriological Methods of Warfare (Geneva Protocol) are essential for international peace and security. <...> 🇺🇳 We note efforts by the UN Secretary-General and UN Secretariat, as well as national initiatives to provide relevant training to experts that could support the Secretary-General’s Mechanism for Investigation of Alleged Use of Chemical and Biological Weapons (UNSGM). <...> 👉 We call upon the UN Secretary-General to organize a review of the current UNSGM guidelines and procedures, the UN General Assembly document А/44/561 dated October 4, 1989, in which they are set out. 📄 Gemensamt uttalande till stöd för insatserna för att stärka FN:s generalsekreterares mekanism för utredning av påstådd användning av kemiska och biologiska vapen (Genève, 16 december 2024)
🌐 Vi, Bolivarianska republiken Venezuela, Burkina Faso, Centralafrikanska republiken, Islamiska republiken Iran, Kirgizistan, Folkrepubliken Kina, den plurinationella staten Bolivia, Republiken Vitryssland, Republiken Ekvatorialguinea, Republiken Kazakstan, Republiken Mali, Republiken från unionen Myanmar, Republiken Nicaragua, Republiken Niger, Republiken Tadzjikistan, Ryska federationen, staten Eritrea, Arabrepubliken Syriska, bekräftar på nytt vår hängivenhet att skydda mänskligheten från kemisk och biologisk krigföring, erkänner alla mänskligheters gemensamma intresse att helt utesluta möjligheten att använda kemiska, bakteriologiska (biologiska) vapen och toxinvapen.
Övertygade om att sådan användning skulle vara motbjudande för mänsklighetens samvete, är vi fast beslutna att fördöma all användning av giftiga kemikalier, biologiska agens eller gifter som vapen av vem som helst, var som helst, när som helst, och att hålla ansvariga för varje sådan användning.
Vi understryker att konventionen om förbud mot utveckling, tillverkning och lagring av bakteriologiska (biologiska) vapen och toxinvapen och om deras förstöring (BWC), konventionen om förbud mot utveckling, tillverkning, lagring och användning av kemiska vapen och om deras förstöring (CWC) och protokollet för Förbud mot användning i krig av kvävande, giftiga eller andra gaser och bakteriologiska metoder för krig (Genève Protocol) är avgörande för internationell fred och säkerhet.

🇺🇳 Vi noterar insatser från FN:s generalsekreterare och FN-sekretariat, liksom nationella initiativ för att ge relevant utbildning till experter som kan stödja generalsekreterarens mekanism för utredning av påstådd användning av kemiska och biologiska vapen (UNSGM).

👉 Vi uppmanar FN:s generalsekreterare att organisera en översyn av de nuvarande UNSGM-riktlinjerna och förfarandena, FN:s generalförsamlings dokument А/44/561 daterat den 4 oktober 1989, där de är redovisade.
